What kind of elopement can I have and which one is the right one for me?

The 5 most common types of elopements

  1. City elopement (civil wedding)

  2. Adventure elopement

  3. Hiking elopement

  4. Beach elopement

  5. Intimate wedding

Elopements are a great opportunity to celebrate your love and the beginning of your marriage in a way that is unique and meaningful to you and your relationship.

Here are the most common types of elopements to inspire you or to find out which kind of elopement is the right one for you and the love of your life to connect a memorable experience with your weddingday.

1. City elopement/ civil wedding

The city elopement is a great option for the ones who love the city life or are fascinated with architecture.

You can have a little ceremony and sign your license at the courthouse or city hall of either the town where you live in or in the city you always imagined to get married in, for example New York City, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Miami etc.

you can take pictures at parks or beautiful landmarks of the city.

You could also include having a drink together at a bar or eat something you both love like pizza, donuts etc.

2. Adventure elopement

An adventure elopement is perfect for the bolt and adventurous couple who would like to connect the memory of their weddingday with an activity that they are always doing together or always wanted to try.

Activities for adventure elopements could be:

-hiking

-swimming

-jet skiing

-skiing

-riding a helicopter or a hot air balloon

-ride horses

3. Hiking elopements

For the hikers who love the outdoors and the reward of incredible views a hiking elopement is the perfect choice.

There are plenty of mountains, waterfalls or woods where you can enjoy breathtaking views and get breathtaking images of your special day.

You can enjoy mountains in Colorado, Utah, Nevada etc.

if you love mountains AND oceans, California, Oregon and Greece would be the perfect option for you.

4. Picnic elopements

You can set up a picnic elopement at any place of your choice, a local Park, a national park, a lake, a beach or even your own backyard.

Once you chose a location, you can decide if you DIY your picnic set up or hire an event planner for luxury picnics. You can also just bring a picnic blanket and snacks and drinks with you to any spot of your choice.

You could also set up a linen screen and bring a projector to do an outdoor movie night with your partner while you enjoy your picnic.

5. Intimate wedding

If you decide to involve up to 30 people of your closest friends and family, you can have a little ceremony at a beach, a lake, a local park, a restaurant or a backyard wedding.

You can have a little gathering in form of a barbecue, have coffee and cake or maybe some drinks at a bar.

(This is also a good way for the after-celebration to tell your friends and family about your elopement if you decided to elope without any guests).

All these elopements are simply inspiration for you to get ideas on how to spend your special day. There are no rules and no limits! It is YOUR day and you can decide whatever the heck YOU want to do.
